Cleaning a suit depends on its condition, care label and construction, not a fixed number of wears. A jacket can contain reinforcement, linings and bonded sections that need different treatment from an unstructured piece of wool fabric.
Between wears
Air the jacket on a hanger that supports its shoulders, then inspect the collar, cuffs and trousers. Remove heavy items from pockets. A stain noticed now is easier to explain at reception than one discovered months later in storage.
Do not automatically clean after every wear, but do not postpone attention when there are stains, persistent odours or accumulated soil. Frequency depends on how and where you wear the suit.
Why a delicate cycle is not a guarantee
A programme may reduce agitation without protecting the jacket's structure. Read the care label and distinguish water washing from professional cleaning. Do not try a machine cycle on a professionally-clean-only suit simply because the temperature is low.
What to explain at drop-off
- Present the jacket and trousers together so their appearance can be assessed consistently.
- Identify stains and any products already applied.
- Mention loose buttons, damaged lining or previous alterations.
- Explain the event date before agreeing a turnaround.
Finishing and storage
Aggressive pressing can cause shine or seam impressions. If the label permits home ironing, test an inconspicuous area and protect the surface as instructed. Do not repeatedly press a stain. Afterwards, store the suit clean, completely dry and without crowding its shoulders.
Frequently asked questions
Should I clean a suit after every event?
There is no rule that fits every suit. Inspect it after wearing and request assessment when stains or persistent smells develop.
What is SPG's turnaround?
Garment orders take 48–72 hours. Tell the team when you need the suit and confirm the arrangements before handing it over.
