Take stock first
Group bed linen, protectors, blankets, duvets, pillows and curtains. Note cleaning, repairs and items no longer used. Keep clean textiles apart so sorting does not mix them with used ones.
In a shared home, agree who washes, dries and puts things away. The job does not end when the machine starts; damp laundry left waiting blocks the next load.
Choose a workable order
- Check bulky items and drying capacity first.
- Keep a clean spare bedding set ready.
- Wash bed linen in compatible loads.
- Plan duvets and pillows separately.
- Address curtains after checking linings and attachments.
A zip does not automatically make a mattress or pillow cover removable and washable. The manufacturer's instructions must confirm the method.
Build a simple routine
Organise shelves by bed size or use and keep each set together. Check dryness before folding. Avoid packing cupboards so tightly that you cannot inspect their contents or notice damp.
A routine based on actual use is more practical than one rigid schedule for every household. Deal with visible soiling or moisture without waiting for seasonal cleaning.
