Before taking them down

Photograph the fittings and record dimensions if the fit matters. Read the label and remove only hooks or weights designed to detach. Avoid pulling fragile hems or assuming blackout backing tolerates the same treatment as the face fabric.

Remove dust using a permitted method. Inspect sun-faded or weakened areas: cleaning cannot restore degraded fibres.

Washing or assessment?

For washable textiles, follow the programme, load and product instructions. A bulky curtain squeezed into a small drum can rinse poorly. Do not select bleach simply because the fabric was originally white.

Mixed linings, ornaments, missing labels and persistent marks warrant assessment first. Start with care symbols and the delicate-fabric guide.

Drying and rehanging

Follow the item's instructions. Hanging a heavy wet curtain can strain both fabric and fittings. Check ironing separately and avoid pressing directly over trims or finishes without guidance.

SPG confirms acceptance and the appropriate household-textile service after assessment. Review the service page and explain dimensions before ordering.

Frequently asked questions

Can all white curtains be bleached?

No. Colour does not establish compatibility. Check the bleaching symbol and product instructions.

Can curtains be rehung immediately after washing?

That depends on drying instructions, wet weight and fittings. Wet rehanging is not appropriate for every item.
